about

Coming thru the pandemic there’s been a lot of talk about people reevaluating their priorities. Every situation has a silver lining and in this song I’m trying to focus on staring that down. There comes a time in relationships and situations when there’s only so much more you can glean about how you’ve gotten where you are by looking at where you’ve come from. There comes a time when we need to move without reservation into an unknown future and reinvent ourselves as we want to be. This is one of those times. And that’s what this song is trying to capture.

lyrics

Rearview

My turn, a deaf ear to the hearsay
No harmony was clear to me anyway
My time, a blind eye to their purview
A sweet goodbye to who knows who
Set the course for- I don’t know
Just trust the winding road

Not looking in the rearview
I know that we’re gonna steer through
Not looking back ‘cause it’s already gone
Looking on to where we belong

The ditto zombies will shake their heads
Roll their eyes and play dead
But left down an abandoned mine
A canary sings and finds her wings
Knowing just how the breeze blows
So trust the winding road

Not looking in the rearview
I don’t care about the near view
Not looking back to where we started from
Looking on to where we belong

This road goes on forever
Just where we thought it would lead
And though we get there never
Hold onto the life we’ve carried together
You and me

Road signs and reasons and seasons change
Summer faces fade in autumn names
The old songs we all sang along
Frozen over then spring the same
Tomorrow became today’s refrain
And on goes the winding road

Not looking in the rearview
I know that we’re gonna steer through
Not looking back ‘cause it’s already gone
Looking on to where we belong
